Day two at the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet

Day two of the meet has two sessions - 9.30 am to 11.30 am and 12 noon to 2.00 pm - with five seminars scheduled for each session.

Day one of the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet ended on a high note, with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa saying that the investment target of Rs. 1 lakh crore “has already been exceeded.”

Day two of the meet has two sessions - 9.30 am to 11.30 am and 12 noon to 2.00 pm - with five seminars scheduled for each session.

The first session comprises the topics centered around Tamil Nadu's infrastructure, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Electronics and Hardware Engineering and Agro and Food processing. There is also a seminar on the investment opportunities in IT/ITES Sector.

Afternoon session:

12.40 pm: Southern districts is the place to invest as land is significantly cheaper. It is also well connected: Mr S. Krishnan.

12.30 pm: TN backed Amway to set up a plant in Madurai when they had regulatory issues with the centre: Mr S Krishnan, representing Govt of Tamil Nadu. He is speaking at the U.S. India Business Council.

Morning session:

11.30 am: K Subrahmanian, Vice Chairman and MD AFCONS Infra, says the Chennai Metro is one of the most complex projects and that dispute mechanisms need to be worked on and improved. He is speaking at the seminar titled Tamil Nadu Vision 2023 – Enabling mega infrastructure Projects.

11.20 am: The DRDO is working on a 100 seater transport aitcraft. "It is on the drawing board" says Dr.K. Tamilmani, director general - Aero, DRDO.

11.10 am: Chennai Aero Park is close to reaching its target of 100 companies who will be involved in the design, fabrication and manufacturing, says Venkatesh Chandrasekaran, CEO, VinMN Aerospace Pvt Ltd.

11.00 am: K. Subrahmanian, Vice Chairman and MD AFCONS Infrastructure Ltd says metro projects cannot survive only on traffic. One needs to look at non-operating revenue like commercial development as well. He is speaking at the seminar titled Tamil Nadu Vision 2023 – Enabling mega infrastructure Projects.

10.50 am: Lee Fu Nyap, CEO, India operations, Ascendas Services India Pvt Ltd says TN is important market, we have made huge investments. He is speaking at the seminar titled Tamil Nadu Vision 2023 – Enabling mega infrastructure Projects.

10.40 am: Jun Kuroki, General Manager Mizuho Bank Chennai branch says that every year 100 Japanese companies enter India and Chennai houses most number of companies. He adds that power and other infrastructure in India not satisfactory when compared to other emerging markets. He is speaking at the seminar titled Tamil Nadu Vision 2023 – Enabling mega infrastructure Projects.

10.30 am: There are companies which communicate internally purely in Tamil but can be developed into competitive company globally. The trick is to provide them with funding and skills: Mr. Muthusami, President, Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association. He is speaking at the seminar titled Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Convention.

10.20 am: States like Tamil Nadu should tap municipal bond markets: S.B. Nayar

10.10 am: Distribution Companies (Discomes) are not honouring commitments. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed: S.B Nayar, CMD India Infrastructure Finance Company. He is speaking at the seminar titled Tamil Nadu Vision 2023 – Enabling mega infrastructure Projects.

10.00 am: S Krishnan, the Principal Secretary of Planning and Development and Chief Officer of Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Doard says, "Land acquisition is not a problem in Tamil Nadu. The State ranks superior when compared to other states in this regard." He is speaking at the seminar titled Tamil Nadu Vision 2023 – Enabling mega infrastructure Projects.
