It has been proposed to set up counselling mechanism at Primary Health Centres and Government Hospitals to create awareness among people of the harmful effects of tobacco products, according to K. Krishnaraj, Deputy Director (Health).

On the direction of the officials of the Tobacco Control Cell, functioning under the Directorate of the General Health and Preventive Medicines, advertisement materials on tobacco products were being removed from all shops.

All official communication should carry the seal depicting the health hazards of tobacco products.

Digital banners would be put up on four-lane bypass roads to convey the message that smoking is prohibited in public places and the need for shunning tobacco and gutkha.

The official team inspected various places such as So. Mangalam in the Kallakurichi block, Ezhu Sempon, Palapattu, Mayilam, Kolliangunam, Saram, Periyathachur and Tindivanam.
