Constantly-burning lamp to be installed at Kamaraj memorial

July 16, 2010 01:03 am | Updated 03:21 am IST - CHENNAI:

A constantly-burning lamp will be installed this month at the Kamaraj memorial [in Guindy], Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said on Thursday.

This will be on the lines of lamps at the memorials of former Chief Ministers C.N. Annadurai and M.G. Ramachandran.

The non-installation of such a lamp has been a grouse among members of the Congress, Mr. Karunanidhi said, addressing a function organised to mark the 107{+t}{+h} birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Kamaraj.

The Chief Minister and School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu gave an account of steps taken by Mr. Karunanidhi to perpetuate the memory of Kamaraj. Mr. Karunanidhi said the birth anniversary of the former Chief Minister had been declared School Development Day and law enacted for the purpose.

Ministers K. Anbazhagan, Parithi Ellamvazhuthi and Poongothai paid floral tributes to the statue of Kamaraj in front of Pallavan House on Anna Salai.
