As many as 86.49 per cent of students who appeared in SSLC exams this year in Vellore district passed. This is less than last year’s 88.67 per cent.
53,883 students (27,105 boys and 26,778 girls) form 602 schools appeared in the SSLC exams from this district and 46,602 students (22,147 boys and 24,455 girls) passed. The number of students who got centum in each subject is: Maths-629, Science-888, Social Science-1079, Tamil-1 and English-1. As many as 31 government schools produced centum pass percentage.
146 schools, including 36 government schools, produced cent per cent pass results. R.Boopathy Chief Educational Officer, Vellore, told The Hindu that 3 per cent of students failed in single subjects while subject wise pass percentages was more than 90 in all subjects.
Boys’ pass percentage was about 10 per cent less than that of girls. “We are planning to concentrate on improving teachers’ ability to handle boys’ adolescent behaviour in classes and bring down the gender gap. We’ll also find ways to rejuvenate their interest in class rooms in order to boost results this year,” he said.
Toppers
K.M. Aishwarya of Shepherds Matric Schools, Madappalli and K.N. Kavipriya of SMS Vimal Matric Higher Secondary School, Arakkonam secured 498 and became district toppers and State second rank holders.
Four students who secured 497 marks and shared second rank in the district are: G. Shuruthi Saraswathi of Holy Cross Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vellore; D. Devishmitha, Lakshmi Garden Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vellore; V. Priya of Valluvar Matric Higher Secondary School, Arakkonam and R. Nithyasree, Sri Divya Chaitanya Matriculation School, Sholingur.
Ten students secured 496 marks and shared third rank in the district.
