80 sovereigns stolen

The Tuticorin Central Police are on the lookout for the culprits who have stolen Rs. 12 lakh-worth gold ornaments from a two-wheeler on Thursday. Police said C. Stephen Jebaraj (59) of Muththammal Colony, who had kept 80 sovereigns of gold ornaments under the seat of his two-wheeler after taking it from the locker of a nationalized bank on the Beach Road on Thursday, parked the vehicle in front of an eye hospital for fixing contact lens.

When he opened the seat on coming from the hospital after a few minutes to keep the hospital records, Mr. Stephen found the valuables, stolen. Based on a complaint from him, the Tuticorin Central Police have registered a case.
