6 killed as car falls into pit

Six persons, including three members of a family, were killed when a car they were travelling in lost control and fell into a roadside pit near Namakkal town on Sunday morning.

En route to a marriage

Police said Tirumurthy (38), an advocate living in Attur, two members of his family and six of his relatives were on way to attend a marriage in Paramathivelur in Namakkal district, when the accident took place.

Died on spot

Tirumurthy and his son Vignesh (13), his mother-in-law Sampoornam (62), his relatives - Saraswathi (52) of Rasipuram, Subramaniam (65) of Salem and his wife Kamalam (63) died on the spot.

Karpagam (30) of Attur, Muthukumar (35) of Rasipuram and Bala Muralikrishna, son of Subramaniam, sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to a private hospital.

Lost control

Police said the vehicle lost control when Tirumurthy, who was at the wheel, attempted to negotiate a curve on the Namakkal – Karur national highway.

The Nallipalayam police have registered a case.
