59 prisoners clear SSLC exams

Fifty-nine prisoners passed the SSLC examinations, the results of which were declared on Friday.

The Tiruchi Central Prison was the second centre, after the Central Jail at Puzhal in Chennai, for the eligible prisoners to sit for the examinations.

Jail officials here said 69 prisoners took the examinations, of the total of 74, at the Tiruchi Central Prison. Five were absent.

The Tiruchi Central Prison was the venue for the eligible inmates of the Madurai, Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Salem, Palayamkottai and Cuddalore Central Prisons.

The officials said there were seven failures, and the results in respect of three others who took the exams in the ‘tatkal’ mode would be declared on Saturday.

Nine of the 10 life convicts who wrote the examinations from the Madurai Central Prison have passed.
