56 panchayats for solid waste management plan

Fifty six village panchayats have been selected in the district under the solid waste management programme to be implemented under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. A total of 647 sanitary workers have been identified for executing the project, said K. A. Jayapal, Minister for Fisheries.

The Minister inaugurated the programme at Akkaraipettai village near here on Saturday.

S. Palanisamy, District Collector, said that funds would be extended for preparing compost using the bio-waste.
