The 373rd birth anniversary of Tamil Poet Umar (Umaru Pulavar) was celebrated in Ettayapuram, his birthplace, on Monday.

Participants garlanded his statue at Umaru Pulavar memorial in Ettayapuram. The Tamil Muslim poet was well known for his literary work ‘Seerapuranam,’ an epic poem.

At the programme organised by ‘Umaru Pulavar Sangam' of Ettayapuram, Vivek, actor and founder of Green Kalam, released a book titled ‘Muthu Mozhil Malai’ in the presence of U. Khaja Mydheen, the poet’s descendant and president of the Sangam. During the programme,

Mr. Vivek distributed 50,000 saplings and spoke about the importance of growing trees. He appealed to the people to grow more trees to promote a clean and green environment.
