28 bonded labourers rescued

Revenue Department officials conducted a raid at a fly ash brick unit in Tiruchengode and rescued 28 bonded labourers, including 13 women, all from Chhattisgarh, here on Wednesday night.

It is said that a 16-year-old girl working at the unit left for Chhattisgarh recently and informed the Child Protection Officer of Narayanpur in Chhattisgarh, Farida Vanjari, that they were not paid wages for several months and were living in a poor condition.

The official alerted the Namakkal Collector V. Dakshinamoorthy. On Wednesday,a team raided the unit in Varapalayam and found 28 workers working there.
