172 driving licences suspended

The Transport department has suspended driving licences of as many as 172 persons in areas falling under Tirupur North and Tirupur South offices of the Regional Transport Office, during this calendar year till April 30. Official sources told The Hindu that of the suspension, 86 people were caught for drunken driving and the remaining for their involvement in fatal road accidents. As many as 98 driving licences out of the total 172 cancelled were done by the RTO (Tirupur North). Sources added that many more cases of people caught for drunken driving were being scrutinised.
