16 children rescued from hostel

October 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - SALEM:

Following sexual abuse of an 11-year-old girl at a private hostel in Hasthampatti, officials on Friday rescued 16 children, including one boy, from the hostel and lodged them at Government Reception Home here.

Recently, the Class VI girl complained of assault by the hostel owner’s son, J. David Livingston (35), and when she revealed it to the warden Mariya, she threatened the girl not to reveal it.

Based on a complaint from the girl’s relative, the All Women Police Station in Ammapet registered a case against the two.

Special teams have been formed to trace the two. Since the hostel has no caretaker and the children are left alone, based on the direction from the Collector V. Sampath, a team comprising Child Welfare Committee chairman A. Xavier, District Child Protection Officer A. Devagi, Protection Officers J. Prabhu and N. Indrajith rescued the children from the hostel.

Officials said that their parents would be informed.
