11-day festival to start on July 26

The 11-day annual festival of Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Snows on Beach Road here will begin here on July 26 (Thursday) with the traditional flag hoisting ceremony and culminate on Sunday (August 5).

Around five lakh worshippers from various parts of the world are expected for the festival. The car procession, slated for August 5 at 7 p.m., will be the highlight of the festival. Most Rev. Peter Fernando, Archbishop of Madurai Catholic Diocese, Rev. Antony Devotta, Bishop of Tiruchi Catholic Diocese, and Bishop of Tuticorin Diocese Rev. Fr. Yvon Ambrose would lead prayer services during the festival, said Rev. Fr. William Santhanam, Rector and Parish Priest, Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Snows.

Addressing the media here on Saturday, he said that special cultural programmes would be held every evening for 30 minutes on the Basilica premises. Benedictions would be delivered at night after the cultural programme. Police personnel would provide security.
