‘108’ ambulance workers demand salary revision

Members of the ‘108’ ambulance workers union on Monday distributed pamphlets to the public creating an awareness about their demands such as implementation of salary revision as per a government order issued in March.

A participant in the awareness drive, Magesh, said the management had not increased their salaries. The employees have also not been paid earned leave encashment.

They announced a strike last year but it was called illegal by the Madras High Court.

Another employee said, “We gave pamphlets to over 1000 public on Monday at the Collectorate, bus stand and government hospital. We want the public to know our genuine demands, so that when we go on a work strike in future, they may understand the reason. The ‘108’ ambulance service functions solely on the tax payers’ money and the public have all right to know what was happening in the service.”
