Police encountered an unusual challenger near Parliament when a stray Nilgai calf came and hit a police control room vehicle on Thursday morning damaging it.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Romil Baaniya said the incident took place around 9-30 a.m.

"The calf came running towards the vehicle near North Block and hit it causing the windscreen to break. The damage to the glass was on the driver's side but he himself and other occupants are safe," said Mr. Baaniya.

Police suspect that the Nilgai had strayed from the nearby Ridge Forests and reached near North Block where there was heavy deployment of Police due to VIP movement.

"We have called the wardens from the wildlife department and will hand over the calf to them," said Mr. Baaniya.
