Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday backed Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley after the latter was publicly targeted by BJP MP Kirti Azad for ‘massive corruption’ in Delhi’s cricket body.
Speaking in Pune, Mr. Pawar said that while the Delhi and District Cricket Association was bedevilled by graft, Mr. Jaitley was an incorruptible person who would “never stoop so low.”
“Arun Jaitley has never, nor will he ever, indulge in corruption of any sort. The corruption brewing within the DDCA is the handiwork of a few officials, but holding Mr. Jaitley responsible is highly improper,” he said.
Mr. Pawar said while Mr. Azad had been scrupulously highlighting the DDCA issue for the past three-four years, Mr. Jaitley was not to blame for the mess.
Mr. Pawar, known for his affinity to PM Narendra Modi and Mr. Jaitley, backed the beleaguered Union Minister at a time when the opposition is baying for his blood.
