RJD expels spokesperson

Rashtriya Janata Dal has expelled its spokesperson Shankar Charan Tripathi who criticised Congress president Rahul Gandhi for hugging Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the no-confidence motion debate in the Lok Sabha last week. Mr. Tripathi was close to party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. Congress is an ally of the RJD in Bihar.

“Shankar Charan Tripathi has been relieved of all his responsibilities in the party and his party membership has been cancelled,” said a letter issued by RJD national secretary general S.M. Qamar Alam on Monday.

Sources said Mr. Tripathi was feeling isolated in the party with Tejaswi Yadav in command and was waiting for an opportunity to quit the party or be expelled.
