‘Rail accidents decreasing'

August 05, 2011 02:05 am | Updated August 10, 2016 11:27 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Railway Minster Dinesh Trivedi on Thursday said the number of railway accidents was less last year, with 93 accidents compared to 200 in 2002. But the government considered that there would be no excuse even if there was a single death.

Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, the Minister, who made the maiden speech after assuming his new portfolio, said the government was concerned about train accidents and were taking all measures to prevent them.

He wanted the support of the members for providing more resources so that the Railways could strengthen the measures for running accident-free trains.

On the non-implementation of the promise of providing jobs for the families of the railway accident victims, he said instructions were given to the Board for the follow-up action, and if there was undue delay in implementing them the officials concerned would be taken to task.
