Peter Mukerjea, an accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, was on Monday sent to judicial custody till December 28.
He was produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate’s court for the extension of his judicial remand.
His lawyer Kushal Mor moved an application for home food, citing Peter’s medical condition, which required a ‘healthy diet’.
The magistrate is likely to decide the application on Tuesday.
The CBI said permissions for home food should be as per the jail manual. “We are not opposed to the plea, but it should be as per the law,” CBI counsel Kavita Patil told The Hindu .
Nearly three months after his wife Indrani Mukerjea was arrested in the case, the CBI arrested Peter in a surprise move on November 19.
He was booked for murder, attempt to murder, and criminal conspiracy and sent to the CBI custody.
Currently, he is lodged in the high-security Arthur Road jail, along with other accused Sanjeev Khanna and Shyamvar Rai.
The CBI’s main charge against him is that he misled his son Rahul about Sheena’s whereabouts and did nothing on his part to trace her.
The agency has also been probing the trail of financial transactions and accused him and his wife of siphoning off funds worth crores of rupees through a lawyer of companies to their media venture 9X Media.
