August 03, 2014 12:59 am | Updated April 22, 2016 02:21 am IST - Guwahati:

Private city bus owners on Saturday agreed to resume operation of women’s special with women conductors from Sunday following assurances by the State transport authorities to take up with the State Government their plea for subsidy. The owners kept the buses off the road for the past two days citing losses due to poor patronage.

District Transport Officer, Kamrup (Metropolitan) Gautom Das told The Hindu that the Regional Transport Authorities would also take steps for marking the ten women’s specials with a particular colour so that passengers can easily identify them.

Ten special buses with women conductors trained in martial art and equipped with CCTV cameras, were introduced on city roads on July 23. to make public transport safe for women.
