An industrialist has been arrested by the Puducherry Police for allegedly tweeting objectionable remarks against Karti Chidambaram, son of Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram.
The accused, Ravi Sridhar (38), son of Srinivasan of Kurinji Nagar in Lawspet here, runs a plastic manufacturing unit at Setharapet. The accused was later produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Puducherry, Venkatakrishnan, and released on bail.
The police said he was arrested based on an e-mail complaint lodged by Mr. Karti Chidambaram, who is also a member of All India Congress Committee, with the Inspector General of Police, Puducherry, R.S. Krishnia. The accused allegedly made a comment in his Twitter account about Mr. Karti Chidambaram’s assets. The IGP sent the complaint to the CBCID wing for taking suitable action.
The Superintendent of Police, CBCID, D. Ravindran, told The Hindu on Tuesday that Ravi Sridhar admitted to airing that view through his tweet. A case was booked against him under Section 66 (a) of the Information Technology Act 2005 for “publishing and spreading objectionable message aimed at damaging reputation.”
