The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday sought a fresh response from the Central Bureau of Investigation on its probe into the custodial death of a terror suspect Khalid Mujahid.

A Division Bench of Justice Ajay Lamba and Justice Akhtar Husain Khan asked the CBI to present the report before the court on July 6.

Mujahid, a suspect in 2007 serial blasts in U.P., died in police custody under mysterious circumstances while being brought back from Lucknow to Faizabad after a court hearing on May 18, 2013.

Mujahid's death led to strong protests by human right activists who alleged Mujahid was murdered by the police. Mujahid's family filed an FIR against several senior police officers in the State.

After a series of protests by activists, the State government recommended a CBI investigation into his death.
