The Pune Police late on Tuesday booked a housekeeping staffer of a plush restaurant in Hinjewadi IT Park for allegedly installing a camera in the women’s washroom.
A woman who discovered the hidden mobile camera on Sunday had narrated her ordeal on social media. A Twitter user spread the word, leading to a groundswell of support for the woman, with more than 3,000 retweets. According to the Twitter user, the restaurant manager did not address the complaints of the woman.
The accused, Ram Deb Nath (24), was an employee of a housekeeping company hired by the restaurant. A case under Section 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 72 of the Information Technology Act has been registered at the Hinjewadi police station.
“We received a complaint from the owner on Tuesday and a case has been lodged. More sections will be added if any victim comes forward,” said a police official, adding that the camera is now with the police.
