A sixth death in the Patna serial blasts is yet to be verified as it was caused by a heart attack. The official death toll in the Sunday blasts remains five, police said.
A BJP supporter, Bharat Rajak, was brought dead to the Patna Medical College and Hospital.
“He was brought dead to the hospital around 10.30 p.m. According to Rajak’s attendants, he ran out of the Maidan in panic, but when he came out he suffered a heart attack. He already had a heart ailment. He did not have any external injury,” Amarkant Jha Azad, Superintendent, PMCH, told The Hindu .
“It has not been proven that he sustained any splinter injury. So the death toll is five,” said Manu Maharaj, Senior Superintendent of Police, Patna.
Meanwhile, five injured persons have been admitted to the intensive care unit. “One of them has suffered intensive bleeding. We cannot say anything about the ICU patients at the moment,” Mr. Azad said.
A total of 83 persons were injured in the blasts that ripped through the Gandhi Maidan ahead of BJP leader Narendra Modi’s rally.
