Bulandshahr assault: Saleem Bawariya held

August 09, 2016 04:24 am | Updated November 17, 2021 04:34 am IST - Meerut:

Saleem Bawariya, the alleged leader of a Bawariya gang, which gang raped a 45-year-old woman and her minor daughter in Bulandshahr last week, was arrested on Monday.

Saleem’s arrest came just hours after the Allahabad High Court took a suo motu cognisance of the incident and asked the State government why it should not order a CBI probe. The court also asked the Akhilesh Yadav government to submit a status report of its ongoing investigation.

State Director General of Police Javeed Ahmad took to Twitter to confirm the breakthrough in the investigation.

“Remaining 3 accused in Bulandshr case arrested after week long chase across east India,” Mr. Ahmad tweeted late on Monday night.

“After massive manhunt U.P. police arrested Saleem Bawariya and two of his gang members. We will disclose the details on Tuesday,” said a senior police officer associated with the investigation.
