The Special Judge hearing the 2G spectrum scam case on Friday objected to the use of mobile phones and other electronic accessories by family members of the accused persons inside the courtroom and threatened to confiscate such items in future.
Special Judge O. P. Saini was irked by the conduct of the wife of an accused in the case who was seen clicking photographs in the courtroom, which the judge said were “highly objectionable acts”.
“The family members, relatives, friends/attendants, of accused persons are advised not to bring and use their mobile phones, laptops, tablets, camera etc., inside the court room as it creates disturbance in the court proceedings, failing which these shall be seized and confiscated,” Mr. Saini recorded in his daily order.
He also added that that the people who accompanied the accused in court were creating a lot of noise and talking throughout the court proceedings.
“Accused and their family members are advised to maintain decorum in the court and not to indulge in such acts in their own interest. Lawyers are also requested to keep their mobile phones on silent mode,” Mr. Saini said.
Earlier this week, Mr. Saini expelled family members from the courtroom, after loud celebrations broke out following the grant of bail to five of the accused in the case by the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Balwa and former Telecom Minister A. Raja's former Private Secretary R. K. Chandolia moved bail applications in the CBI Special Court on the grounds of parity with other accused who were granted bail by the Supreme Court. Arguments on bail will be taken up for hearing on November 28.
