The BJP-led Maharashtra government has ordered an inquiry against actor Aamir Khan starrer Hindi movie PK, after the complaints by several right wing Hindu organisations.
“We had to take action after we received complaints against the movie. We are aware that the Censor Board has cleared the film, but as a responsible government we also need to probe in this matter,” said Ram Shinde, Minister of State for Home.
The Home Ministry has asked Deven Bharti, Special IG (Law and Order) to inform the government about the movie in its report. “There is no time frame, but we expect the report as early as possible,” said Mr. Shinde.
The right wing Hindu organisations, such as Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), have accused the movie for disrespecting Hindu religion and have sought ban. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev too had appealed to the people to boycott the film.
Actor Aamir Khan has already made a statement saying he never intended to disrespect Hindu religion through his film. “I respect Hindu religion. My Hindu friends have seen the film and they have not found anything objectionable in this movie. The 99 per cent people associated with this project are Hindus. No one would do such thing,” he had said earlier.
