Lt. Gen. Kakria Armed Forces Medical Services chief

Lieutenant General H.L. Kakria on Tuesday took over as Director-General of the Armed Forces Medical Services. Prior to this, he was the Director-General, Medical Services (Army). An alumnus of GSVM Medical College, Kanpur, Lt. Gen. Kakria joined the Army Medical Corps in 1972. A postgraduate in General Surgery and Orthopaedics from the Pune University, the Lt. Gen. is a well-known surgeon, teacher and academician with several published research papers in national and international journals, a Defence Ministry release said.

He is a recipient of the Amir Chand award in 1990 for the best research work in Orthopaedics on knee joint injuries.

During his 39-year career, he has held key positions, including that of Commandant, Base Hospital Delhi Cantonment; Commandant, Artificial Limb Centre, Pune; and Commandant, Command Hospital (Southern Command), Pune.
