Youth killed in attack at Udma

: A youth was killed and his brother suffered critical injuries in an attack by an unidentified group of persons near Uduma early Tuesday.

Shahul Hameed, 28, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in Mangalore.

His brother, Badusha, 26, is under treatment at the hospital, the police said.

10-member gang

The police said the two were attacked at 1.15 a.m. when they were returning home after calling on the family of a friend who had died. They were attacked with sticks and sharp objects by a 10-member gang near Arattukadavu, the police said.

Shahul Hameed succumbed to his injuries early Thursday.

Out-of-danger

The condition of his brother is said to be out of danger, Kanhangad Dy.S.P. K. Harishchandra Naik told The Hindu .

Shahul Hameed, who was employed in a Gulf nation, had returned home recently for medical treatment.

He is said to have undergone treatment at a hospital in Ernakulam and was planning to return to the Gulf shortly, reports here said.

The deceased has two children, aged two and one.
