Intensive training was provided by the Premier League coaches from the United Kingdom for 24 regional-level football coaches selected from across the country at the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (SAI LNCPE) in the capital city.
The six-day Phase III of Premier Skills initiative, run by Premier League and the British Council, concluded on Sunday.
Head coach Jeremy Weeks and Paul Hughes led the courses.
Throughout the week, the trainees received expert training from qualified Premier Skills coaches. The coaches were trained to support and develop their own community football projects.
Global appeal
Premier Skills uses football to develop a brighter future for young people, drawing upon the global appeal of the Premier League and its expertise in delivering community programmes in the United Kingdom, along the British Council’s global network and track record of delivery.
The course in SAI LNCPE was jointly organised by the British Council, Premier League, Sports Authority of India, All India Football Federation, The Indian Football Association (West Bengal), Kerala Football Association, and Goa Football Association.
Since Premier Skills began nine years ago, 6,300 coaches and referees have been trained in 29 countries, who in turn have reached nearly one million young people.
In addition to coaching, a range of free materials, including a dedicated website, have been created under Premier Skills for teachers and learners of English that utilise Premier League content and the British Council’s expertise in English.
24 football coaches were given training by Premier League coaches.
