Workshop on intangible heritage

Union Minister to open meet on Feb. 16

The Aranmula Heritage Trust will be organising a four-day national workshop on ‘Intangible heritage and disaster management’ at Aranmula from February 15 to 18.

According to B. Krishnakumar Krishnaveni, organising committee chairman, and M. Velauyudhan Nair, chairman of the board of directors of the trust, the workshop will be held at the Sree Vijayananda Vidyapeedhom Higher Secondary School and at the Panchajanyam auditorium.

Union Minister of State for Water Resources Arjun Ram Meghwal will inaugurate the event on February 16. Kummanam Rajashekharan, Governor of Mizoram, will be the guest of honour and K.N. Dixit, Indian Archaeological Society president, will be the chief guest. Rahul Goswami, facilitator for intangible cultural heritage, will deliver the keynote address.

Veterans to be honoured

Veterans in the fields of Vallappattu, Padayani, Vallasadya, craftsmen of snakeboats (palliyodam), and Aranmula Kannadi (metal mirror) makers, and the Pampa Parirakshana Samithi general secretary N.K. Sukumaran Nair will be honoured on the occasion.

Pre-workshop session

A pre-worshop session would be held at the Panchajanyam auditorium on February 15. Kesava Mohan, former member of the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority; Viva Kirmani, social activist-cum-environmentalist; Kadammanitta Vasudevan Pillai, Padayani exponent; Rajeshkumar K., academic; K. Sasikumar, Sree Budha Education Trust chairman; Thomas P. Thomas, academic and environmentalist; Mohanakshan Nair, Sanskrit scholar; C.I. Isaac, member of the Indian Council for Historical Research; M.G. Sasibhushan, former director of Kerala Literary Mission, and Suresh V. from Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru, will address various sessions at the four-day workshop.

K.K. Muhammed, former Regional Director of the Archaeological Survey of India, will preside over the valedictory meet.
