Voters will teach UDF a lesson: V.S. Achuthanandan

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan said here on Monday that the voters in the State were ready to defeat the UDF and Chief Minister Ommen Chandy in the local body elections so as to teach them a lesson.

Addressing LDF election campaigns at various places in the district, he said Mr. Chandy had suffered the first blow when the High Court stopped the delimitation of wards and ordered timely conduct of local polls. He will have the second setback when the results of the local body polls are announced, Mr. Achuthanandan said.

Mr. Achuthanandan said skyrocketing prices of essential goods had made life miserable for the common man. The price of rice, which was Rs.12 a kg, had gone up to Rs. 42. The prices had increased as Mr. Chandy supported the black market, he alleged.

“Vellappally Natesan has already become a liability for the BJP-RSS team. Mr. Natesan’s trick at Aruvikkara will not work anymore in the State. The BJP, which used to get only 5,000 votes, had polled 35,000 votes due to Mr. Natesan’s support,” Mr. Achuthanandan said.

He alleged that Mr. Natesan had accepted Rs. 6 crore as bribe for appointments to colleges and schools and for admission of students. He had amassed crores in the name of microfinance too. The local body elections were an occasion to respond against the anti-people policies of the UDF government, he said.
