The Akhila Kerala Viswakarma Society has declared its support for the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the coming local body elections.

Speaking to reporters Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, society president P. Gopinathan Asari and general secretary Suresh Babu Koyilandy said the UDF government had worked for the interests of the community by constituting the P.N. Sankaran Commission to look into the problems of the section, launching a pension scheme for members of the community, and extending educational benefits by including the community under the OEC category.

The efforts were in stark contrast to the neglect meted out towards the community by successive governments, they said.
