Giving yet another twist to the SNDP-BJP combine’s Hindu consolidation push, SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan is all set to inaugurate a Nair Youth Convention in Kottayam on November 15. Aneesh Muraleedharan, a Kerala High Court lawyer and president of the Nair Youth Movement (NYM) which is organising the meet, told The Hindu that around 10,000 youths from the five districts of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Idukki, and Ernakulam would attend the event.

This assumes significance, considering that the Nair Service Society (NSS) has vocally distanced itself from the BJP-SNDP led consolidation.

Mr. Muraleedharan said the NYM was not against the NSS, but added that the organisation was formed in consultation with the Nair youth fora across the globe. Roopesh R. Menon, a software engineer, is the NYM secretary.‘‘NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair, is our community leader. But we accept Mr. Natesan as a Hindu leader,’’ he said. According to Mr. Muraleedharan, former ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair will preside over the meet. Film-maker Major Ravi and heads of various Hindu Maths would address the meet, he said.
