Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 04:
The United Democratic Front (UDF) has pulled all stops to make its “day-and-night” agitation on Thursday in front of the State Secretariat and district collectorates a success.
The 24-hour stir is being organised against the unpopular policies of the Narendra Modi and Pinarayi Vijayan governments at the Centre and in the State. The UDF leadership has put in all organisational efforts and meticulous planning to convert its campaign into a major show of strength against the backdrop of Bharatiya Janata Party State president Kummanam Rajasekharan’s 15-day Janaraksha Yatra, touted as an attempt of that party to capture space in Kerala’s bipolar politics. With BJP president Amit Shah’s participation giving Mr. Rajasekharan’s march a national profile, the UDF leadership is under pressure to ensure the success of its agitation.
The UDF agitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday in all the designated venues, with the exception of Malappuram, which will hold the campaign only on October 19 in view of the Vengara byelection. It will conclude at 10 a.m. on Friday. UDF leaders assert that the call for a hartal on October 13 making the unpopular policies of the two governments the core issues will be reflected on Thursday. All UDF Assembly committees, feeder organisations and service outfits have been allotted time to come in a procession to the respective venues in a show of solidarity.
