more-in

The 47-day annual ban on bottom trawling for the mechanised fishing section came into force in the State for the 28th consecutive year from midnight on Sunday.

All the mechanised boats based at the Shakthikulangara-Neendakara twin fishing harbours here that were out at sea fishing returned by dusk. After selling the catch at the harbour, these boats will anchor on the eastern side of the Neendakara bridge till July 31.

All mechanised fishing boats registered outside the State that were operating from the two harbours were asked to leave Kollam waters by Saturday evening.

The district administration has announced taking strong measures for effectively implementing the ban. Announcements on the trawling ban coming into force were carried out along the fishing areas of the district. Only traditional fishing crafts will be allowed to fish at sea.
