Tamil Nadu is planning to move the Supreme Court seeking to entrust the security of the Mullaperiyar dam to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
At present, the security of the dam is entrusted to the Kerala Police. Tamil Nadu took objection to the Kerala Police move to prevent its officials from visiting the dam recently. The police said that the officials were allowed entry, though those accompanied them were prevented at the boat-landing station. It was because they could return only after the gates at the boat landing station were closed in the evening as they came late.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had demanded earlier that the security of the dam be entrusted to the CISF.
Now, Tamil Nadu wanted to take up the issue as there were reports by the State `Q' branch that unauthorised persons were allowed access to the dam raising security concern.
Video footage
Tamil Nadu also took video footage of the visit of Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash to the dam on Tuesday evening after the water level reached its peak. Tamil Nadu alleged that along with the Minister, party workers and unauthorised persons were given entry to the dam.
The presence of unauthorised persons in the dam raised security threat, it said.
The Kerala Police were behaving on a partisan manner while giving entry to those from Tamil Nadu, said sources in the Tamil Nadu Public Works Department.
