Thunderstorms likely for next few days

Yellow alerts issued for many districts

Parts of the State can expect thunderstorm activity over the next few days with conditions becoming increasingly favourable for the northeast monsoon onset.

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning is very likely at isolated places in the State till Friday, IMD's Meteorological Centre said in a weather bulletin on Monday. Yellow alerts indicating isolated heavy rainfall (6.4 cm to 11.5 cm in 24 hours) have been issued for the districts of Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Malappuram on Tuesday; Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram on Wednesday; Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam and Idukki on Thursday and Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Wayanad on Friday. Conditions are favourable for the onset of the northeast monsoon during October 17-23, IMD said.

Kerala is among the States where rainfall activity is likely to increase during this seven-day period, according to the IMD.

The 2018 NE monsoon season had been a normal one for Kerala.
