Thunchan Vidyarambham fest on Oct. `19

: This year’s Vidyarambham festivities organised jointly by the Thunchan Memorial Trust and the South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur, will begin at Thunchan Parambu on October 19. Actor Manju Warrier will inaugurate the five-day festival in the evening.

The inaugural will be followed by a Mohiniyattom performance by Kalamandalam Soumya Subhash.

A competition in clarity of Malayalam pronunciation will be held on October 18 to commemorate children’s poet Kunhunni Master.

Tom Mccarthy’s film The Visitor will be screened on October 20. It will be followed by a music concert by M. Praniya and a dance performance by the Lalitha Kala Samiti.

Mahsun Kirmizigul’s film The Miracle will be screened on October 21 evening, to be followed by a music concert by Devayani of Sapthaswara Music, Tirur, and a Mohiniyattom performance by Priya.

On October 22, Brian Percival’s film The Book Thief will be screened, to be followed by a Ghazal rendition by Sreenath Nair, Sameel Sikani and Aswathi Nair, and a dance performance by the Mahila Samajam, Thrikandiyoor.

Thousands of children are expected to reach Thunchan Parambu on October 23 for Vidyarambham or initiation into the world of letters. There will be a separate Vidyarambham for poets, in which poets will present their works.

Kornel Mundruczo’s film White God will be screened in the afternoon. It will be followed by a jugalbandi performance by Noushad Shah on the sarod and Ahamed Ibrahim on the sitar.
