: Children in present-day society grow up without receiving the essential love and care from their mothers, said film actor Kaviyoor Ponnamma. The issue has great social

relevance in contemporary society.

Mother is the vital link of firm family bonds, Ms. Ponnamma said.

Society today is riddled with contradictions as people are found to be self-centred and indulge in hate speech, she said. Society would flourish only if family bondage is fostered and firmed up, she said.

The actor was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the Women in Action programme, organised by the Women’s Wellness Centre, at the municipal conference hall here on

Sunday.

On a request by her fans and the audience, Ms. Kaviyoor Ponnamma rendered a few lines of popular movie song ‘Kainiraye Venna Tharam Kavililorumma Tharam Kannanu.’District panchayat president P. P. Shyamala Devi presided over the function, attended by P. Karunakaran, MP, N. A. Nellikkunnu, MLA, T.

E. Abdulla, municipal chairman, among others.
