Officials of the State Disaster Management Authority, Institute of Land and Disaster Management, and the Pathanamthitta District Disaster Management Authority, inspected various sites from Pathanamthitta to Pampa on Wednesday, to ensure a safe Sabarimala pilgrimage for devotees.

The team has recommended traffic arrangements at the church junction at Mylapra. It entrusted the Pubic Works Department with the task of installing crash guards at several points on the Pathanamthitta-Pampa main trunk road leading to Sabarimala.

It maintained that parking of vehicles on the wayside near the aquaduct at Edathara should not be permitted. The Forest Department has decided to fell trees posing threat to vehicles and pedestrians along the Kulanjithodu-Pampa stretch of the road.

The team also prepared a draft plan for waste management at the Nilackal base camp during the annual pilgrim season, besides directing authorities to ensure adequate safety precautions near the waterfalls on the wayside where pilgrims take bath. The team was led by T.V. Subhash, Deputy Collector (Disaster Management), and K.V. Radhakrishnan Nair, Ranni tahsildar.
