Within a few days after its formation, the anti-defacement squad in the district has removed 2,058 electioneering materials posted in violation of the model code of conduct for the elections.

Election authorities said as many as 2,048 of them were from places owned by the State and Central governments and 10 were from privately owned places. Those removed included 68 wall paintings, 1,299 posters, 215 flex boards, and 466 flags.

The district administration will offer vehicle facility for the differently abled to exercise their right to franchise.

Vehicles

District Collector D. Balamurali said here on Tuesday that vehicles would be made available for the differently abled to transport them from home to the polling and back.

It is for the first time that the district administration is making vehicle arrangements for the differently abled. Pranav M.B., a BCom student from Government College, Chittoor, has been roped in as Palakkad’s ambassador for the differently abled for this election. For Pranav, it will be his maiden vote.

Officials said those with at least 40% disability in vision, hearing, speaking, or physical movement, would be considered for vehicle. As many as 6,400 people have registered themselves in the person with disability (PWD) category in the district.
