A report of the State Pollution Control Board and a study by Thrissur Engineering College have indicated that the sound intensity of the fireworks at the climax was above the allowed limit.
The intensity of this year’s fireworks by the Thiruvambady Devaswom was recorded as 128.2 decibels and that of the Paramekkavu Devaswom 125.6 decibels. The allowed limit is 125 decibels.
The intensity of previous year’s fireworks was 101 decibels.
Sample fireworks
The intensity of the sample fireworks of the two Devaswoms was within the allowed limits. While Thiruvambady recorded 117.1 decibels, Paramekkavu recorded 124.2 decibels.
Meanwhile, the Thrissur Corporation cleared garbage from the Thekkinkadu Maidan after the pooram. Around 100 Corporation workers participated in the drive.
Cleaning
Usually, sanitation workers clean the maidan soon after the pooram. This year, when they tried to bury the garbage at a place allowed by the Cochin Devaswom Board, some people raised objections.
Then the corporation stopped the cleaning drive.
On the intervention of Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar, the corporation cleaned the maidan on Friday.
However, a decision on disposing of the garbage is yet to be taken.
