No nomination was filed on Day One for the Malappuram and Ponnani Lok Sabha constituencies on Thursday. Most candidates are likely to file their papers between Monday and Thursday. April 4 is the last date to file nominations.

After a scrutiny of nominations to be held at 11 a.m. on April 5, candidates will get time till April 8 to withdraw their nominations.

Symbols to independent candidates and candidates of unrecognised parties will be decided at 3 p.m. on April 8.

A 40-member special task group has been set up to control and monitor activists and supporters joining the candidates in large groups when they arrive to file their nominations. Dy.SP, Malappuram, will head the task group.

Special security has been arranged at the strong room at the Collectorate where voting machines have been kept.
