A petition was filed by K.M. Shaji, MLA, before the Kerala High Court seeking to take action against former sub-inspector of the Valapattanam police station for allegedly giving false evidence during the hearing of the election petition filed by LDF candidate M.V. Nikesh Kumar.

The High Court had declared void the election of Mr. Shaji from Azhikode. Later, the High Court verdict was stayed by the Supreme Court.

False evidence

According to Mr. Shaji's petition, Sreejith Koderi, now working as sub-inspector, Kannur Town police station, had given false evidence and it amounted to an offence under Section 191 (giving false evidence) of IPC. Mr. Sreejith was examined to prove the seizure of pamphlets that were communal in nature from the house of N.P. Manorama, former president of the Valapattanam grama panchayat.

In the cross-examination he made a totally incorrect statement, knowing that it was false and with the intention of adducing false evidence before the High Court.
