BJP president Amit Shah’s tweet on Tuesday criticising the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government’s handling of the Sabarimala issue has evoked a strong reaction from the Chief Minister’s office.

Mr. Shah, in a tweet said that the way the Pinarayi Vijayan government was handling the sensitive Sabarimala issue was disappointing and the police were treating young girls and the elderly in an inhuman manner and were not even providing the basic facilities such as food, shelter and clean toilets.

Misleading, says CM

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in reply said that the tweet was misleading and the pilgrimage was progressing without causing any inconvenience to women, children and other pilgrims. This was because of the government’s efforts to provide amenities in view of the pilgrims’ needs.

The pilgrims had no inconvenience, but the Sangh Parivar that was out to create trouble in Sabarimala was facing problems, the Chief Minister said.

Mr. Shah might have been misled by their campaign and that might have prompted him to make such baseless tweet, Mr. Vijayan said.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s observation that the government was only trying to implement the verdict and neither the Central nor the State government had anything else to do there was a reply to Mr. Shah, Mr. Vijayan said.
