The renovation work of the Sakthan Thampuran bus stand, which was stopped before the local bodies’ elections, has not resumed yet.

The yard on the north side of the bus stand has been opened for traffic after completing the concrete work. But it is not clear when the second phase of work will start.

The concrete work, which was disrupted in between, can be resumed only after getting permission of the newly elected council. The previous council had approved only the first of the three-phase development work.

A council meeting will be held after electing the Mayor. Tender proceedings will begin only after approval of the agenda of the work at the council.

In the first phase, the concrete work of the yard on the north side, where buses towards Kunnamkulam and Kozhikode are parked, was completed.

Meanwhile, the condition of the pothole-filled south side of the bus stand has become more pathetic with rain. It is a struggle for passengers as well as buses to wade through the bus stand.

Buses towards Palakkad, Kodungallur and Peechi use the south side. Around 3,500 buses conduct services at the bus stand daily.
