District Collector Mir Muhammed Ali clamped prohibitory orders in the areas under the Thalassery and New Mahe police station limits under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code for two days beginning on Sunday.
The Collector, who is also District Magistrate, in his order said that the prohibitory orders would be in place till 12:00 p.m. on January 7. Assembly of people in public and private places, organisation of processions and demonstration, carrying and collection of lethal objects, bricks, explosive materials, weapons or any other object that could be used for violence are prohibited in view of continuing incidents of violence in the area.
The order said that the prohibitory orders were being clamped on the basis of the report of District Police Chief G. Siva Vikram that the incidents of attacks that started during the dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the Sabarimala Karma Samithi, including those targeting leaders, had created serious unrest in the area. The hartal affected peace and caused damages to properties.
