A division bench of the Kerala High Court on Tuesday imposed a cost of ₹25,000 on BJP leader Sobha Surendran for moving a petition alleging that the police are registering large number of false cases against persons following the Supreme Court verdict on the entry of women of all ages in Sabarimala.

The court while imposing the cost and dismissing her petition observed that the petition was filed with mischievous intentions and for cheap publicity. Though the counsel for the petitioner tendered apology, the court did not accept it and imposed the cost.

In her petition, she alleged that the police were filing false cases on the thought that no authorities would question their actions. She pointed out that an IPS officer recently dared to question a High Court Judge.

The petitioner sought a directive to the State government and State Police Chief to furnish all cases that resulted in acquittals from January 7, 2014 till now and also the designation and names of the officers who had investigated the cases.

The petition also sought a directive to take disciplinary action against the police officers who had investigated the criminal cases that resulted in acquittals.
