A resort owner and two others were arrested by the Vithura police on Saturday for allegedly engaging in a full-blown clash with local residents following a dispute a day ago.

The police identified the accused as Sujith Kumar of Karikkakom who owns the resort located by the banks of the Kallar river near Vithura, Anil Kumar of Vilappilsala and Manoj of Vattiyurkavu.

The incident took place around 5 p.m. on Friday after two of Anil’s guests had fully stripped down to bathe in the river under the influence of alcohol, even as several local residents including women looked on.

While some people objected to the act, Sujith and the others reacted violently to spark a clash. While four cases have been registered in connection with the incident, two of them have been filed against the local residents on the basis of complaints by the resort owner and his family. The installation of a CCTV camera by the river banks by the resort owner had apparently triggered tension in the area.
